FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VEGAN DOG NUTRITION
Our vets will give you answers to all your questions about vegan dog nutrition. We dispel prejudices and give you a brief overview of what dogs need in their diet and how it is possible to feed them a purely plant-based diet. You can also contact us by email at tierarzt@vegdog.deif you have any specific questions.
Is a vegan dog diet possible?
Yes, that actually works. However, as with any type of food, you have to make sure that the dog is provided with everything. For this reason, the required minerals, trace elements and vitamins are added to the vegan dog food from VEGDOG , which cannot be completely covered by the ingredients used. This is necessary for every complete food (whether with or without meat) in order to ensure an optimal supply. To ensure that our vegan wet food can be fed as a complete food, we have nutritional analyses carried out on our varieties.
When is VEGDOG particularly suitable?
FOOD ALLERGY VEGDOG was developed because Tessa's dog Nelson suffered from a food allergy. Nelson was highly allergic (neurodermatitis, ear infections and gastrointestinal problems) to animal protein and cereals. For this reason, we have developed recipes in collaboration with specialist veterinarians for dietetics that completely cover the dog's needs and, from a scientific point of view (according to this study) , do not contain any of the dog's main allergens. Only our ADULT No1 and SENIOR No1 varieties contain u.a. Potatoes, to which some dogs are allergic. The SENSIBELCHEN No1 varieties or our dry food GREEN CRUNCH are very suitable for these dogs.
LEISHMANIOSIS Dogs suffering from leishmaniasis can also benefit from a purely plant-based diet. You can find out more in our blog post "Low-purine diet for leishmaniasis" .
HEALTHY CHANGE But VEGDOG can also be a healthy alternative for all healthy dogs. Just one or two vegan days a week not only helps our dogs' health, it also provides variety in the food bowl and makes a very valuable contribution to animal welfare and environmental protection. 🐶
Can I also feed VEGDOG in combination with other types of food?
Basically YES, of course. However, we recommend a ration check by specialists for "mixed feeding". A supply of the nutrients described and analyzed by us is only possible when feeding with VEGDOG alone. If you switch between different types of feed or feed manufacturers, a nutritionist should check the rations and calculate an optimal supply.
Doesn't my dog need animal protein?
There is vegetable protein that is comparable to animal protein and can be utilized just as well by the dog. For this reason, you should always look for a high-quality source of protein in vegan dog food
Where does my dog get his amino acids from?
An amino acid profile that is optimal for dogs is important for this plant-based protein source. Lupin is currently the highest quality source of protein among plant-based foods and guarantees the basic supply of essential amino acids in vegan dog food.
What does the vegan wet food from VEGDOG contain?
We initially use lupin granules and peas as a source of protein. We also use starch-rich feed as an energy source, such as z.B. Potatoes. In addition, VEGDOG contains vegetables, pulses, high-quality oil, sunflower seeds, algae and the appropriate supplements of minerals, trace elements and vitamins, which would not be sufficiently covered by the natural content of the ingredients. This is always necessary for a complete food, whether with or without meat. With vegan food, however, there are a few more.
How should the feed be changed to VEGDOG ?
The changeover should be made carefully over a period of three weeks. Gradually increase the amount of food VEGDOG and reduce the amount of food previously fed. Weigh your dog at regular intervals and monitor its general condition
