We are in the coldest time of the year, which inevitably means ice and road salt on the paths. This puts more strain than ever on our dogs' paws.

A natural balm that protects the skin from drying out is a great help here. We have made an effective paw balm for our dogs ourselves using simple ingredients and would like to share the recipe with you here.

Marigold and chamomile flowers can have an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect. The moisturizing, antibacterial coconut oil rounds off the recipe perfectly.

For the paw balm you need:

  • 200 ml coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp dried marigold petals (available from health food stores or pharmacies)
  • 1 tbsp chamomile flowers (available from health food stores)

Making it is very simple:

Heat the coconut oil in a water bath until it is liquid. Add the flowers and mix well. Pour the mixture into a small resealable jar and then allow the coconut oil to solidify again. This usually takes a few hours.

HOW TO USE IT:

Regularly massage a small amount of the balm into your dog's paws, z.Bbefore or after a walk. But please do not use if the paws have wounds, as the balm should be used preventively.

Have fun making it and have a wonderful time!
