Definition: What is Veganuary?
The term Veganuary is made up of the words "vegan" and "January". Veganuary is a challenge that encourages people around the world to eat vegan in January. The aim of this campaign is to convey that a purely plant-based diet is not as difficult as you might initially think. After all, there are now countless products, recipes and tips that make vegan eating much easier. Vegan January is about rethinking meat consumption and doing something good for animal welfare and the climate with a vegan lifestyle.
Facts & Figures: Since when has Veganuary existed?
The Veganuary Challenge was launched in 2014. The idea came from a non-profit organization in Great Britain. The Veganuary community is growing steadily from year to year. In 2023, over 700,000 people took part worldwide. Many of the participants also decide to live vegan beyond January. A survey found that 80% of participants have continued to drastically reduce or completely change their consumption of animal products. Of these, 28% even eat a completely vegan diet.
